Longley were appointed as the main contractor to deliver a two-phase roof replacement project at a live secondary school. Working at height in an occupied school environment required careful planning, coordination, and strict adherence to safety protocols to ensure the well-being of students, staff, and operatives throughout the project.
The works involved a full roof replacement, including the removal of the existing structure and installation of new roofing materials. Additional external improvements were carried out, such as brickwork and chimney cleaning and repairs to restore the building’s façade. Fire barriers were installed within roof voids to enhance fire safety measures, and external decorations were completed to improve the building’s appearance.
To minimise disruption to teaching and learning, the project was delivered in two carefully phased stages. Longley worked closely with the school’s leadership team to schedule activities around the school timetable, with clear communication maintained throughout.
As part of our ongoing commitment to social value, Longley will also support the school’s careers fair, engaging with Year 10 and Year 12 students to share information about opportunities within the construction industry. This initiative aims to inspire interest in construction careers and offer guidance on potential pathways into the sector.
