09/06/2026 On Tuesday 19th May, we were delighted to welcome 30 Year 6 pupils from St John’s Primary School to Sevenoaks Recreation Ground for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the brand-new pavilion currently under construction.
Equipped with hi-vis jackets and hard hats, the pupils explored the development room by room, gaining first-hand insight into the construction process and the different stages involved in bringing a community facility to life. Throughout the visit, the children asked thoughtful and engaging questions, demonstrating genuine curiosity about the built environment and the people who help shape it.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the pupils to take part in a consultation exercise linked to the wider recreation ground improvements. Working alongside representatives from the local council, the children shared their ideas and feedback on how the space could best serve the community in the future, including suggestions for recreation, accessibility and community use.
Engaging young people in live community projects is an important part of our social value commitment. By opening up opportunities for education, participation and meaningful local engagement, we aim to ensure our projects create a lasting positive impact that extends far beyond the built environment itself.
Initiatives like this not only help inspire future generations, but also strengthen connections between local communities, schools and development projects — ensuring that the voices of young people are heard as part of shaping community spaces for years to come.
We would like to thank St John’s Primary School, the pupils and staff, and everyone involved in making the visit such a success.
