The project to upgrade the fire alarm systems and fire doors at this Kent Hospital was executed in a live occupied environment, necessitating careful planning and coordination. As a critical healthcare facility, the hospital required the upgrades to be completed before the onset of winter, ensuring the safety of patients and staff during the peak season for emergencies.
To adhere to this critical deadline, our team established a phased approach, allowing sections of the hospital to remain operational while work was conducted. Health and safety were paramount; we implemented strict protocols, including daily safety briefings and monitoring of infection control measures to prevent cross-contamination. This included utilizing barriers and negative pressure systems to contain dust and debris.
The upgraded fire alarm systems and fire doors significantly enhanced the hospital’s life-saving systems, ensuring rapid response in emergency situations. Each fire door was fitted with automatic closing mechanisms and the latest fire-rated materials, providing vital protection and containment.
Infection control was also prioritized, with materials selected for their ease of cleaning and resistance to pathogens. The successful completion of this project not only met regulatory standards but also reinforced the Hospital’s commitment to safeguarding the lives of its patients and staff in a safe, controlled environment.
