Year 3 pupils at a London Primary School recently took part in a Social Values planting session led by Longley Group, following the completion of major refurbishment works at the school. The initiative is part of Longley’s wider commitment to community engagement and sustainability.
In the school’s new raised beds—affectionately named “Longley Farm”—students planted a variety of vegetables including broad beans, peas, radishes, turnips, onions, and garlic. The hands-on session involved adding compost, sowing seeds, and watering, with children learning about the plant life cycle and how to care for their crops.
The school has now assigned pupils to maintain the garden, and Longley staff will return in a month to check on progress. This initiative is one of many Longley aims to deliver as part of its growing social programme, which focuses on providing educational, nature-based activities in inner-city London Boroughs.
“The Longley Farm is about more than construction—it’s about giving back and teaching children the value of sustainability and healthy living,” said a Longley spokesperson. The session complements the extensive renovations completed by Longley, which brought the school’s facilities in line with 2030 sustainability targets.
“Thank you for taking the time to organise and lead such a wonderful session for our pupils. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and it was a fantastic opportunity for hands-on learning. We truly appreciate the generous resources you provided and the effort your team put into making the session so engaging. Please pass on our sincere thanks to everyone involved.” – Assistant Headteacher
