1/07/2025 – Following the successful completion of a major roof replacement project at a Secondary School in North East London, Longley has continued its positive relationship with the school community by taking part in a recent Careers Fair.

On 1st July, members of the Longley team were proud to attend the school’s Careers Fair, an event focused on supporting Year 10 and Year 12 students as they begin to explore future career pathways. The event provided an engaging platform for students to connect with professionals from a wide range of industries, including the construction and built environment sectors.

As part of our ongoing commitment to social value, we see great importance in engaging with young people at this pivotal stage in their education. Our team shared personal experiences and insights into the broad spectrum of careers available within the construction industry—emphasising that the sector offers far more than just ‘on the tools’ roles. We introduced students to career paths such as Architecture, Engineering, Surveying, and Project Management.

We also highlighted real-life examples from within our own team, including an employee currently working towards becoming a Chartered Quantity Surveyor through an apprenticeship. This team member combines on-the-job experience with university study one day a week, showcasing an alternative route into the profession for those who prefer to learn while they earn. Sharing this pathway helped demonstrate that university and traditional academic routes are not the only options for building a successful career in construction.

“We believe in inspiring the next generation and opening doors to career paths they may not have previously considered,” said a Longley representative. “It’s vital that students understand the breadth and flexibility of opportunities our industry offers.”

The day was a great success, with students engaging enthusiastically and asking insightful questions. Longley is proud to continue its involvement with the school and is currently planning to deliver a construction-focused assembly in October, further supporting students’ career development journeys.
