Planting Seeds for the Future at Fortismere School

05/11/26 Bringing outdoor spaces to life through community engagement and lasting social value.

As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering meaningful social value, we recently returned to Fortismere School in Haringey to take part in a hands-on planting session with students, helping to bring newly improved outdoor spaces to life.

On Friday 16th October, our team joined students to plant potatoes, onions, garlic and tulip bulbs, providing an opportunity for young people to connect with nature, develop practical skills and take pride in their school environment.

The session followed the successful completion of a programme of improvement works at the school, designed to enhance both indoor and outdoor learning environments. These works included the installation of new artificial turf, landscaping and timber sleepers, the creation of the Longley Sensory Garden and Longley Farm vegetable patch, alongside extensive internal Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) improvements.

Together, these enhancements have helped create more accessible, inclusive and engaging spaces that support the diverse needs of students and provide opportunities for outdoor learning, exploration and wellbeing.

While the completed works have transformed the school’s facilities, initiatives such as the planting session demonstrate how these spaces can continue to benefit the school community long after construction has finished.

For our team, delivering social value goes beyond the successful completion of a project. It is about building positive relationships with the communities in which we work, creating opportunities for engagement and ensuring the improvements we deliver have a meaningful and lasting impact.

The planting session was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with students and staff, encourage environmental awareness and contribute to the ongoing development of the school’s outdoor spaces.

We would like to extend our thanks to everyone at Fortismere School for their warm welcome and enthusiastic participation. We look forward to seeing the vegetable patch and gardens flourish in the months ahead.

By combining improvements to the built environment with meaningful community engagement, we are proud to help create spaces that support learning, inclusion and wellbeing for years to come.
