A primary school block underwent urgent refurbishment following significant flood damage. The project aimed to restore a safe and functional learning environment for students while minimizing disruption to ongoing classes. The block included 12 classrooms and 7 toilet blocks, all of which required extensive repairs.
Health and safety were top priorities throughout the refurbishment. A comprehensive risk assessment ensured the safety of students and staff in the live occupied building. Emergency temporary classrooms were set up within 48 hours of the flood, allowing students to continue their education with minimal interruption.
The refurbishment included the installation of new specialist teaching screens in each classroom, enhancing the learning experience by integrating modern technology.
Despite the challenges of working in an active school environment, the project was delivered on time and within budget. Effective communication and collaboration between contractors, school administrators, and staff ensured that the refurbishment progressed smoothly.
To enrich the school community further, we donated and built raised, accessible vegetable patches and hosted a social value day, engaging students in hands-on gardening activities. This initiative fostered teamwork, environmental awareness, and a sense of pride in their newly refurbished school.
