Longley was appointed to complete an 18-week roof terrace upgrade at a fully occupied, live student accommodation site. The project began with the safe installation of scaffolding to allow access while maintaining building operations. Early works included electrical first fix and modifications to below-ground drainage to support the terrace improvements.
Ground preparation was then undertaken to enable the laying of new paving, followed by the installation of GRP planters, paving slabs, and integrated bench seating to create a welcoming and functional space. As the project progressed, second fix LED lighting was added to enhance both the ambience and usability of the terrace during evenings.
To bring the garden to life, the planters were filled with shingle, soil, herbs, and small trees, creating a green, tranquil environment for residents to enjoy. Once the main works were completed, the site was thoroughly cleaned. Waste was removed, scaffolding was safely dismantled, and final jet washing was carried out to ensure a spotless finish.
Although the project presented logistical challenges due to restricted access, our team developed a practical solution: a hoist-designed scaffold system that allowed for efficient movement of key materials—such as bulk bags of MOT Type 1 aggregate and tiles—from the ground floor to the first-floor terrace.
