A two-phase roof replacement project was carried out at a live secondary school, requiring careful planning and coordination to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students, staff, and site operatives throughout the works.
The project involved the full removal and replacement of the existing roof structure, along with improvements to the building’s exterior. These included brickwork repairs, chimney cleaning, and the installation of fire barriers within roof voids to enhance fire safety. External decoration works were also completed to improve the overall appearance of the school.
Working at height in an occupied school environment presented unique challenges. Comprehensive safety measures were implemented, and works were carefully phased to align with the school timetable, ensuring minimal disruption to teaching and learning.
Collaboration with the school’s leadership team played a key role in the smooth delivery of the project. Regular communication allowed for flexible scheduling and maintained a safe and efficient working environment.
As part of Longley’s social value commitment, the team also engaged with students by supporting the school’s careers fair. Year 10 and Year 12 students were given insights into careers in construction, helping to inspire future talent and promote opportunities within the industry.
