6/07/2026 Our team was proud to support the next generation of female talent by taking part in Women in the Built Environment Day at Langley Park School for Girls on Friday 3rd July.

Representing our business, Rebecca Green, Marketing & Social Values Coordinator, and Sam Simpson, Senior Contracts Manager, volunteered their time to help deliver an engaging and interactive day for Year 8 students, designed to showcase the wide range of career opportunities available within the construction and built environment sector.

Throughout the day, students participated in two hands-on challenges that encouraged them to think creatively, work collaboratively and develop practical problem-solving skills.

The first challenge tasked teams with designing and constructing a one-metre prototype bridge using everyday materials. Alongside creating a structurally sound design capable of supporting the ultimate test—a tin of beans—students also had to carefully manage project budgets and material costs, mirroring the commercial considerations faced on real construction projects.

The second challenge saw students step into the role of property developers on the fictional island of Lang Land. Working within financial and environmental constraints, each team selected a development site and created a proposal that balanced sustainability, commercial viability and community impact before presenting their ideas in a professional marketing pitch to a panel of judges.

The standard of work throughout the day was exceptional. Students demonstrated impressive creativity, teamwork, innovation and confidence in presenting their ideas. While commercial success formed part of the assessment, the winning teams were recognised for their collaboration, sustainable thinking and the quality of their communication.

Supporting initiatives such as Women in the Built Environment Day is an important part of our commitment to creating positive social value and encouraging greater diversity across the construction industry. By engaging with young people at an early stage, we hope to help break down barriers and inspire more young women to pursue rewarding careers in engineering, surveying, project management, construction and the many other professions that make up the built environment.

It was a privilege to meet so many enthusiastic and talented students, and we hope the experience has encouraged them to explore the exciting opportunities our industry has to offer.
