New contract at Christchurch Primary School

The second school project is Christchurch Primary School, one of the largest schools in London. This school building consists of two three-storey Grade II listed Victorian buildings, the Main building and the Dane building. They also have a two-storey Victorian building called the Park Building which accommodates the school Nursery and three additional classrooms. The Longley Group were contracted to carry out a full electrical rewire of the lighting and small power throughout the main building, all classrooms, hallways, storerooms and basement including distribution and sub mains cabling.

With all-new sub mains containment, lighting design, power outlets and I.T. suites to be done within that. This is a fully occupied building, so all works are carried out during out of hours, throughout the night. To follow health and safety good practice and current public health advice we have developed protocols for all who work in and around the Longley construction sites while under COVID-19 alert levels. As a Main Contractor, we have a significant role to play in ensuring these standards and protocols are taken into account for all work undertaken.

We expect everyone managing construction sites on behalf of The Longley Group to apply the guidance provided. This site is no exception and Project manager Joe Imber and his team of 15 operatives have created a COVID-19 control plan including cleaning and hygiene practices, site entry and exit register, deliveries, and visitor protocols. After each shift, a full, deep clean takes place to help ensure sites are operating in a way that reduces the risk of wide-spread transmission. Each classroom and working area is then put back exactly the way it was the night before. This is followed by a full check and walk around with the Premises Managers in the morning before the pupils arrive to make sure everything is satisfactory. This work is ongoing from now and due to complete mid-January 2021.
